Finished Stencil Samples!

I recently posted some tutorials on designing with my Ultimate Stencils and my Ultimate Shape.  I had some sewing time during this week's retreat and managed to get two of them done and wanted to share. This medallion used the Ultimate Stencil to provide the angle guides and a portion of The Ultimate Shape to provide the blades. The background used my triple lines background stencil.  By flipping it I created a triple line grid.  I'm always telling my students you can use "The Basic Three" fillers to fill any quilting design to create an heirloom piece.  Although this looks...

Design Tutorial~Basic "Square" Star

In my last tutorial I described how to make a basic eight pointed star using the Circle Ultimate Stencil.  You can create beautiful stars using the square one too but they come out a bit different. Starting with the square transparency, create the center of your star first...just like we did with the circle.  Note that I used every other line. Once the center lines are done, and using every other line, start creating your star points. I love how the squared star corner points go out further. Remember you can additional points in-between your existing star points if you...

Featuring Linen Lady~Monique Figlietti!

Monique is another one of my special Linen Ladies that is being featured at the Houston Quilt Festival.  I've known Monique for many years and have always been quite impressed with her attention to detail and her love for handwork. Once she was introduced to the world of wholecloth linen quilting she became an obsessed fan and hasn't looked back since! She has sewn her whole life from the time she was a child.  She lives in Yuba City, California which is just about an hour south of where I live and is surrounded by rice fields, peach and almond...

Design Tutorials! First one... Basic Star

I've been busy this week rearranging and consolidating things in the back room of my studio.  It has been used this past year for storage of all sorts of things and I decided I needed to make the most out of this wonderful area.  I managed to carve out an entire corner for ME.  I've always done my drawing and designing in a little corner of the spare bedroom with everything jammed into cubbies and boxes.  Now I have wonderful space for my drafting table, a place to hang all my tools, places for the pencils, pens, rulers and compasses...

New Class Sample...Using Ultimate Shape and Ultimate Stencil

As I start creating new class samples and updating my E-books, I will start posting instructions on how to create some beautiful designs.  This is one of my favorites...once the quilting is done I'll be sure to post a photo! I started with the circle Ultimate Stencil and marked all of my angled lines. Then I used a 1/4 section of the Ultimate Shape and lined it up to each of the marked angled lines.  Look at the beautiful pinwheel that is created! I placed the circle Ultimate Stencil back on top of the design and traced the outside three...
